beckett or not?

January 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

as i assemble my syllabus for introduction to literature, i find myself still struggling to decide whether to novel or to short story. beckett, first love, is a compelling argument to short story. could then manage a woolf and a rodoreda and who else? i could go on. joyce? henry james. how difficult should the reading be? how much effort and how much pleasure? (remember, i read kafka and sartre and even beckett in high school for fun. i am not always certain that makes me the best judge.)
